I am writing this from the streets of Malabo, where the modern glass facades of our capital stand in sharp contrast to the lived reality of so many of our people. They look at the global stage and see what is possible, and they yearn to bring that excellence home. In our clinics and schools, the dedication of our staff is heroic; they work with limited tools to heal and teach, often carrying the weight of the nation’s aspirations on their shoulders. They are the ones who prove, every single day, that our people have the heart and the mind to lead.
But, Mr. President, the gap between our national wealth and our social reality is wide. Our economy is a giant built on oil, but we have failed to diversify, leaving the average citizen vulnerable to the volatility of global markets. We need an economy that works for everyone—not just the few. We need transparency, we need investment in our local markets, and we need to empower the small-scale farmer and the young entrepreneur.
